Renal Stem Cells

Renal Stem Cells
Renal Stem Cells are progenitor cells capable of differentiating into renal epithelial lineages, becoming specialized cells that are the primary components of the kidney. They are derived from human umbilical-cord mesenchymal stromal cells (hUC-MSCs). They are characterized by the expression of markers such as CD133, which like the CD133+ multipotent adult resident progenitor population, may contribute to the repair of renal injury. They possess long-term self-renewal capacity, maintaining the stem cell pool in the kidney over time, making them interesting targets for the study of renal injury, and organ recovery in general.
